Creueta house

Zest Architecture led the renovation project of a single family house which was originally owned by an artist in Barcelona, and transformed it into an A energy house.

Casa Creueta was originally designed in the 1950s by a local artist for his family. What once used to be a quiet suburb with single family dwellings, has now become an integral part of Barcelona. The owners hired Zest Architecture to rejuvenate this house with its unbeatable views towards the Mediterranean.

The challenge was to maintain the original charm, given by some very special features and rich details, adapting it to the needs and taste of the new owners. The house needed overall repair, and all the wiring and plumbing had to be replaced. Zest went for A-rating energy consumption label with complete insulation of the facade, finished in dark grey. The facade of the lower floor, which had an original finishing in local stone, has been insulated on the interior. Both the roof and the ground floor were insulated as well.

The original owner was a sculptor and graphic designer and his studio on the top floor became the master bedroom, which is designed as a luxury suite with a bath and sitting area with fireplace. The original industrial facade was replaced by a series of eight windows. Adjacent to this suite is the large home office. On this top floor, which was cut off from the panoramic view, architects created “el mirador” – a small roof terrace from where the views over the city are nearly at 360 degrees.
